If you become hurt at work you should report your condition to your employer as soon as possible, preferably in writing. This is very important in order to protect your rights to receive any benefit available during the workers’ compensation process. You have up to two years from the time you are injured to file a proper claim for benefits, however, you should notify your employer within 90 days of the injury in order to protect your right to receive these benefits.
In South Carolina, after notifying your employer, your employer then has ten days to report your injury or illness to the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission. This commission oversees the payment of benefits to you.
